#ferryportraits: pictures in transit

What is it to be transported by water? What opportunities for repose, for work, reflection or interaction are birthed when traveling by ferry? What does the horizon line do to your mind? A lifelong ferry commuter myself, this project began as a way of learning about my fellow passengers on my daily commute, and has blossomed into something bigger.

An ongoing project currently featuring photographs from the Washington State and Staten Island Ferry Systems in the United States, Blackball Ferry line in Canada, and the Mbita line on Lake Victoria, Kenya. I’m ambitious for ways to continue this work in Istanbul, Japan, the Baltic and Mediterranean Seas, and ultimately for this collection to become a book.
